Thanksgiving is a way of life for God’s children

 .Colossians 2:6,7

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

.

Our Father in Heaven ordained thanksgiving as a way of life for us, our loving response to Him for sending His Son to save us, and for His daily love and care for us.

.1 Thessalonians 5:18

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Psalm 107:22

22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

Hebrews 13:15

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Ideally, Thanksgiving Day should be a day that is larger-than-life, full of fellowship and happy and good things. However, it is often a day on which people suffer more from their grief and needs, because it is supposed to be a happy day so they feel their pain more sharply.

May the Father lead us to help people who must thank Him through their tears and in the midst of loss and enormous need; and to help them to remember His eternal love for us in Jesus Christ, Who became poor for our sake, suffered for us, and is near to the broken-hearted!

Isaiah 63:9

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Maria

A word in season – A Thanksgiving Psalm

Brethren, a happy happy Thanksgiving to you! May we praise the Lord more and more as He leads us to our desired haven – heaven!

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 107

NKJV

Thanksgiving to the Lord for His Great Works of Deliverance

107 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.

They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
They found no city to dwell in.
Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He delivered them out of their distresses.
And He led them forth by the right way,
That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

10 Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Bound in affliction and irons—
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And despised the counsel of the Most High,
12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor;
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their chains in pieces.
15 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For He has broken the gates of bronze,
And cut the bars of iron in two.

17 Fools, because of their transgression,
And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorred all manner of food,
And they drew near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare His works with rejoicing.

23 Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on great waters,
24 They see the works of the Lord,
And His wonders in the deep.
25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
26 They mount up to the heavens,
They go down again to the depths;
Their soul melts because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brings them out of their distresses.
29 He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then they are glad because they are quiet;
So He guides them to their desired haven.
31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise Him in the company of the elders.

33 He turns rivers into a wilderness,
And the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
And dry land into watersprings.
36 There He makes the hungry dwell,
That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
37 And sow fields and plant vineyards,
That they may yield a fruitful harvest.
38 He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly;
And He does not let their cattle decrease.

39 When they are diminished and brought low
Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,
40 He pours contempt on princes,
And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;
41 Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction,
And makes their families like a flock.
42 The righteous see it and rejoice,
And all iniquity stops its mouth.

43 Whoever is wise will observe these things,
And they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.

Every year, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Though the alliteration “Thanksgiving Thursday” is very catchy, it isn’t the reason why Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November. Before this became the official date of the national holiday, the original date was celebrated on November 26th. George Washington is responsible for establishing this date in 1789, when he issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation by the federal government. Many states and people were still unfamiliar with Thanksgiving by 1817, so magazine editor Sarah Josepha Hale started a writing campaign to pressure President Abraham Lincoln to establish Thanksgiving as a national holiday.

In 1863, after decades of writing, Hale finally encouraged Lincoln to declare Thanksgiving a national on on the last Thursday of November. The United States continued to celebrate Thanksgiving on that set date until 1939, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday a week earlier, hoping it would spur retail sales during The Great Depression. Roosevelt’s plan became known as “Franksgiving”, but it failed because many people opposed the idea. In 1941, Roosevelt reluctantly signed a bill making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday of November for everyone in the United States

Don Moen: Cântări de Mulțumire de Ziua Recunoștinței – Don Moen: Songs of Thanksgiving ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

rodiagnusdei

24 Noiembrie este Thanksgiving Day – Ziua Recunostintei se sarbatoreste in Noiembrie, Joia, intre a 22-a – a 28-a zi a lunii.
